One of the biggest challenges people have on an ecommerce site is finding the right product. Using search or navigation to find product and filter down to their ideal product is the current way (I saw a stat last week that 43% of ecommerce customers use search)
Here are two huge trends that will change that, but I’m not sure which will win and how it’ll play out. I also think there will be a lot of interplay between them

(too easy right? But Linkedin has said all posts have to mention AI in 2024 or else they get retracted ๐ )
Here are AI search questions:
– does it change searching into a chatbot style conversational interface? Having a natural language conversation is an easier way of finding something and can be an easier overall process.
– when I upload an image AI could help me find it much easier through understanding the image and searching for similar items. It can find the attributes (colour, brand etc) and then
– filters don’t have to be limited to what is currently on the site, AI can be way more intuitive in understanding the nature of a product and how to describe it

If the site knows what my size is what styles I like and my favourite brands that makes suggestion much easier. Previous browsing and purchasing habits help to build up a better profile of what I’m in to and so decrease the amount of irrelvant products I’m shown.
This only gets better over time as it learns more about me, and with a layer of AI to improve it it’ll give more astute results.
I’m intrigued to see what happens with privacy. In theory people don’t want the invasion from a random site knowing everything about you, in practise making life easier is very alluring.
What am I missing? Where do you see things going?
