
Many years ago I worked on Monopoly as an online game (and it was even distributed on a CD-ROM, remember them kids 💿 ?)
Hasbro were a giant pain in the ass about every decision, and coming from a swift moving startup environment I thought it was painful.
I read today that Hasbro has made $3BN on Monopoly GO since launching last April.
When you have such recognisable IP you want to make sure you can sweat it till eternity (and make huge money) it makes sense to ensure that you can manage every permutation of how it’s presented. It’s a good lesson for me that my natural tendency to go fast and get shit done has a counterpoint 🙂
