Following on from yesterday’s post about using Dan Shipper‘s podcast to understand more about how people used ChatGPT. I got ChatGPT to distil their wisdom to create these commandments:
1. Be clear and concise in your requests.
2. Use specific details to guide the AI’s responses.
3. Structure your prompts logically.
4. Break complex queries into simpler parts.
5. Incorporate context to enhance relevance.
6. Verify the AI’s responses for accuracy.
7. Use prompts to stimulate creativity and idea generation.
8. Combine AI insights with other sources for comprehensive understanding.
9. Approach AI as a tool for augmenting learning and skills.
10. Adapt and refine prompts based on AI feedback to improve outcomes.
I think these are pretty good, if a little generic (and 10 is probably too many, it may be interesting to distill it further). To make it more actionable its nice to ask it for examples of specific commandments (e.g. 10)
-If an initial prompt yields overly broad answers, refine it by adding more specific details or constraints.
-For vague responses, clarify your prompt by stating the exact information or format you’re seeking.
-In case of inaccurate answers, adjust your prompt to narrow down the context or specify the domain of knowledge.
-For prompts that generate creative content, iterate based on feedback or desired themes to steer the creative direction.
-When using prompts for educational purposes, modify them based on previous responses to target areas of confusion or interest more effectively.
